Konkani was unquestionably in the forefront at the supernova event “Konkani Rocks!” organized by Heritage Jazz that was held on the 3rd of December 2009. Creating history was Dutch music maestro Saskia Laroo and her quartet who were the first foreign musicians to play Konkani music and captivated the audience by playing crowd favourites on traditional Goan soil. The concert went beyond music and entertainment and touched the hearts of masses. An international star rocking to their own local language created a sense of pride in the hearts of the Goans. The event certainly set the benchmark in Konkani entertainment. People were euphoric and responded energetically when Saskia walked into them with a cordless pick up for her trumpet weaving her magic and astounding the crowd with her nimbleness. She handled the Konkani beat which is very different to her own usual sound with effortlessness, and her collaborations with the Goan singers sent the audience soaring with the elevated level of music. The crowd lapped up the musical treats handed out by the brilliant Goan fadista Sonia Shirsat, songsters Marushka Rebello and the Sigmund de Souza Group who played all time favourites of various Konkani musicians and some of their own compositions as well.
